Amsterdam has a magnificent selection of museums. Below are just some of them.

Masters old and new

As well as famous names such as the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum with its Rembrandts, Vermeers and Steens, the Stedelijk (Municipal) Museum of Modern Art, and the Anne Frank House, Russia’s Hermitage currently also has an annex in the city. Amsterdam has dozens and dozens of museums offering adventure into everything from architecture to film, photography and science.

  • Or visit one of the many galleries, if you want to buy a work of art.
  • Many museums are walking distance from the Dam, the city centre the so-called Dam Quarter. They include the Royal Palace, the New Church (Nieuwe Kerk), the Old Church (Oude Kerk), Museum Beurs van Berlage, the Amsterdam Historical Museum and Museum Amstelkring.
