June 30 will see the start of a new, twice-a-week barge service between the Port of Amsterdam and the German hinterland. The new transport link will operate from the Ceres Paragon Terminal in the Port of Amsterdam and will serve all major inland-waterway ports as far away as Basel in Switzerland and Aschaffenburg in Germany.

The Amsterdam RAI congress center will be the venue for TOC  Europe 2008 (Terminal Operations Conference & Exhibition) from June 17 through June 19. The event is being sponsored by the Port of Amsterdam.

The 2007 annual report of the Port of Amsterdam has now come out. Entitled “Make it Yours!”, this publication is building on the port’s eye-catching “tattoo campaign” launched last year. The annual report sheds light on all the major port-related developments seen in 2007. In addition, the annual report looks ahead to the future, in which the to-be-built second sea lock in IJmuiden will figure prominently. The publication also contains interviews with entrepreneurs and local residents giving their personal views.

Amsterdam is the first European port of call for a new service covering the whole of Asia.

The final conference concerning the European NoMEPorts project will take place on April 24 and 25. NoMEPorts stands for Noise Management in European Ports, and aims to reduce noise pollution in ports.

On March 28, Mayor Job Cohen has drived the first pile for the construction of the new Greenmills biodiesel plant on Kretaweg (Kreta Road) in the Port of Amsterdam.

The buses providing daily transport to people who work at Westpoort (an industrial and port area) will begin running on biofuel on March 28.

A new Renault Trucks center will open its doors in the Amsterdam port area on Friday, March 7,  2008. The new site, located on Beiraweg 3 in the Atlaspark, will also serve as the company’s main facility in the Netherlands.
