The Fashion Box by Merel Boers
The sixth transport container in the series of twelve ART-on-a-BOX has been painted by Merel Boers (1981, The Netherlands). Merel Boers graduated in 2006 with distinction from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam under the pen name 'Miss Blackbirdy (in Dutch merel is a blackbird). Merel seeks to visualise her world, Miss Blackbirdy's world, through her drawings and garments.

For the ART-on-a-BOX assignment Merel chose the title: 'My wardrobe is like a garden; each year it grows and grows'. "To me my wardrobe grows because I am always adding to it. Rather in the same way that the port of Amsterdam is growing fast. I think the contrast between the rough port world and the delicately lined illustrations with flowers and girls' figures are rather pretty. My basic objective with my work is 'I love to draw a beautiful world around me', and that fits the idea of this fashion container which will soon be travelling the world". The container was painted during the Amsterdam International Fashion Week 2007. More information about the artist can be found on www.missblackbirdy.com
