Amsterdam: New weekly service to Sweden and a new one to England

6 September 2007
6 September will see the commencement of a weekly direct service between Amsterdam and Södertälje and Västeras in Sweden. This is happening in response to a substantial increase in demand for short-sea transport to Sweden's east coast in general and to Stockholm in particular. In a separate development, a new weekly service will start between the English port of Goole and Amsterdam.

In cooperation with Transatlantic European Services (TES) in Västeras, Sweden, Thor Shipping and Transport (TST) will operate the new direct service to Sweden. Departures will take place every Thursday evening from the Ceres Paragon Terminal in Amsterdam, while arrivals in Sweden will be on Monday mornings.

The first voyage will be made by MS TransOdin, which will take in cargo at the Ceres Paragon Terminal in Amsterdam on September 6 and depart the same day.

The new service will transport both containers and general cargo. The shipping company can handle the three most-used container sizes: 20-foot, 40-foot and 45-foot PW/HC containers.

With this new service, senders, forwarders and transport companies will now have a new possibility to move cargo to Sweden - door to door or port to port.

TST will also offer a new weekly service between the English port of Goole and Amsterdam. Ships will leave from Goole every Wednesday evening and arrive on Thursday morning at the Ceres Paragon Terminal in Amsterdam.

These two new services - involving a total of over 50 calls by ships per year - will give fresh impetuous to short-sea shipping to and from Amsterdam and related transshipment in the port.
