New ro-ro ship Höegh Shanghai makes its maiden call to the Port of Amsterdam

6 March 2007
On Thursday, March 1, 2007, the brand-new ship Höegh Shanghai, belonging to the Höegh shipping company, made its maiden call to the Port of Amsterdam. The vessel moored at the Ceres Westhaven, carrying a cargo for the Koopman Car Terminal. The Höegh Shanghai is the first of a series of eight new ro-ro ships ordered by Höegh.

The ship is 200 meters long, over 32 meters wide and 10 meters high. It offers 54,000 square meters of space suitable for transporting cars and can accommodate 7,000 cars. The Höegh Shanghai is registered in Oslo, Norway.

Its first load consisted of Nissan cars taken in at the Port of Barcelona. Normally, its cargo will come from the Far East. These ships carry not only cars, but also often car part for Hitachi.

Koopman Car Terminal has concluded a long-term contract with Nissan for loading and unloading Nissan cars at the terminal in Amsterdam, as well as for the transport to car dealerships.

To mark the maiden call, on Friday, March 2, a port representative presented the captain of the Höegh Shanghai with a memento showing the port’s coat of arms.
