Port of Amsterdam and Sitos opt for “sustainable” storage of cocoa butter in western port area31 May 2007On Wednesday May 30, the first pile was driven into the ground for the construction of a cocoa butter warehouse on the Koffie-/Latexweg in the western port area. The new storage facility will be used by Sitos Commodities & Logistics BV. The warehouse will be equipped with a cutting-edge fire detection, warning and suppression system. This will pick up the slightest traces of smoke, warn the occupants of the building that they must get out and - after an inspection - fill the affected section of the building within two minutes with 40,000 cubic metersof carbon dioxide and thus extinguish the fire immediately.

Port of Amsterdam surges ahead in Q1 with 19.7 percent growth15 May 2007In the first quarter of 2007, the Port of Amsterdam continued to achieve strong growth. Over that period, the Port of Amsterdam handled 15.9 million metric tons of goods - up 19.7 percent in comparison to the same period last year. Imports were 11.1 million metric tons (+24.7 percent), while exports were 4.8 million metric tons (+9.8 percent).
So Amsterdamis still on a roll after experiencing 3.7 percent growth in 2005 and 13.4 percent in 2006. Among other contributing factors, the Port has made substantial investments in recent years and is also responding optimally to today's international logistical developments.
