Port of Amsterdam becomes increasingly greener thanks to construction of biodiesel plant23 April 2007J&S Bio Energy BV(part of the oil and gas company Mercuria Energy Group) has concluded contracts with the Oiltanking Terminal in Amsterdam for the construction of a biodiesel plant in the Port of Amsterdam. The new production facility will put out 200,000 metric tons of biodiesel a year. The total investment is estimated to be €42.5 million. The plant will be on line in the summer of 2008, creating about 30 jobs and a great deal of indirect employment.

Port of Amsterdam continues to see strong growth in first months of 200713 April 2007The final figures show that 2006 was the Amsterdam Port Area's best-performing year. The Amsterdam Port Area consists of the Ports of Amsterdam, Zaanstad, Beverwijk and IJmuiden. The total amount of cargo handled by these ports grew from 74.5 million metric tons in 2005 to 84.4 million metric tons in 2006. That is an increase of 12.7 percent in 2006 in comparison to the year before. The Port of Amsterdam
alone accounted for the lion's share, namely 61 million metric tons -a rise of 7.2 million tons or 13.4 percent compared to 2005. This can be mainly attributed to the growth in the transshipment of oil products and shipping containers. In the first two months of 2007, the Port of Amsterdam has seen continued expansion of activities.
Pronk Multiservice expands substantially in Port of Amsterdam4 April 2007Pronk Multiservice, located on the Elbaweg in the Port of Amsterdam, recently completed building a second industrial shed. The company specializes in lashing and securing cargo on ships, trucks, railroad cars and incontainers. Moreover, it provides assistance (supplying forklift truck drivers, slingers, etc.) to others in loading and unloading cargo in the port area.
