The start of the campaign took place at SAIL, the kick off given by artist Hugo Kaagman. He painted the first container in his Delfts blue style. This container will be displayed at various fairs and conferences, but also used for transport. The decorated container will be reproduced on mini-containers made from Makkumer Pottery. At the start of the SAIL campaign, the initiators of ART-on-a-BOX sought the alliance of Art-for-SAIL, of which Port of Amsterdam is main sponsor.
Hugo Kaagman was born in Haarlem on 3 January 1955. He is well known for creating stencils from motifs from different cultures, which he then combines in large impressions. He initially gained his inspiration abroad, but rediscovered the Netherlands and has developed numerous contemporary applications of Delft blue.
