Meltem Ulbegi paints 9th “art container”

The Amsterdam artist Meltem Ulbegi will create the ninth “art container” that is part of the ART-on-a-BOX project, which promotes Amsterdam as a container port. She will do so during the weekend from August 29 through 31 at the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam. The Uitmarkt is cultural event that ushers in the new cultural season and attracts hundreds of thousands of culture aficionados each year.
 
 
Opening of four bicycle routes in port area

Cyclists can take in the industrial landscape, plus flora and fauna. On Wednesday, Aug. 27, four recreational cycling routes running through the port area were opened to the public. The port authority has created these marked bicycle routes, each of which has a different character. Information posts at interesting sites provide background information to the users, who will get a good impression of the industry, flora and fauna “living cheek by jowl” in the port area.

Amsterdam Port Area achieves robust growth

In the first half of 2008, the cargo throughput in the Amsterdam Port Area (comprises the Ports of Amsterdam, IJmuiden, Velsen, Beverwijk and Zaanstad) grew by 6.6% from 44.7 million metric tons to 47.6 million metric tons.

 
 
CCA official empty depot in Amsterdam for CMA-CGM

From the 1st of August  Container Company Amsterdam (CCA), part of the Ter Haak Group, has officially been appointed as the emtpy container depot in the Amsterdam regionfor the French carrier CMA-CGM which is originated in Marseille. CMA-CGMbelongs to the top three largest container carriers in the world. The Ter Haak Group has considerably expanded its container depot facilities.

New barge service links up Port of Amsterdam with German hinterland

June 30 will see the start of a new, twice-a-week barge service between the Port of Amsterdam and the German hinterland. The new transport link will operate from the Ceres Paragon Terminal in the Port of Amsterdam and will serve all major inland-waterway ports as far away as Basel in Switzerland and Aschaffenburg in Germany.

Annual report: Port of Amsterdam, put in a strong showing in 2007

The 2007 annual report of the Port of Amsterdam has now come out. Entitled “Make it Yours!”, this publication is building on the port’s eye-catching “tattoo campaign” launched last year. The annual report sheds light on all the major port-related developments seen in 2007. In addition, the annual report looks ahead to the future, in which the to-be-built second sea lock in IJmuiden will figure prominently. The publication also contains interviews with entrepreneurs and local residents giving their personal views.
