Paper & Pulp Industry Transport Symposium 2011

The industry organizations RISI and IFTPA selected Amsterdam to be this year’s host for the PPI Transport Symposium from 11 till 14 October.  And with success. With a wide concentration of Paper & Pulp producers and Logistics providers the number of visitors was 20% higher than previous years.

Usefulness Allweather terminal proven ‘live’

De all weather terminal bewijst zichzelf

In spite of the rain, the boat tour on the “Kapitein Kok” was successful and attracted some 400 attendees, visiting Spliethoff, VCK Logistics and the Waterland terminal in full productivity.

The boat sailed into the covered terminal, where Managing Director Rene Finson could proof the usefulness of an allweather terminal during this wet excursion.

The boat tour ended at the beautifully  restored Scheepvaart museum, where the networking reception took place.

Growth and Sustainability

Dertje Meijer, directeur Haven Amsterdam

This year’s program was focused on “Growth and Sustainability“, on which subject Dertje Meijer zeroed in during her opening speech at the beginning of the conference in the RAI.

The keynote speaker was Sjuul Paradijs, editor in Chief of the Telegraaf,  who looked at the current media landscape and the future of newspaper publishing.

He offered the attendees a special Amsterdam Telegraaf-  edition exclusively for the PPI Transport Symposium.

Port of Amsterdam shared a stand with VCK Logistics and Waterland Terminal in the exhibit hall and a large number of high quality visitors (producers, shipping lines logistic companies, etc.) have been received at the stand as well as on site visits.

As a first result we counted a number of leads and appointments for follow up visits.

Networking receptions in the exhibit hall on Wednesday and Thursday attracted a good number of people. Active networking during the evening in some of the amazing Amsterdam restaurants gave the symposium an extra dimension.
